Sand filters are used
when drainfields need pre-treatment. They commonly fail in 1 to
5 years because design standards are vauge and inspections are
few. KEI has developed and tested a stratified sand
filter that keeps working and has a proven record of excellent
waste treatment. This design and installation process has
been reviewed by both Thurston County Health Department and the
State of Washington Technical Review Committee. We are currently
installing these filters on small, difficult lots in Thurston
County for about 6 to 7 thousand dollars. They cost a little
more, but to replace a sand filter you could be looking at 5 to
10 thousand dollars depending on the landscaping.
